Ultimate Australian Adventure

Five days were spent in Sydney and surrounds. We rode bikes to see the Sydney Opera House, Sydney Harbour, biked on the Sydney Harbour Bridge and along Darling Harbour. We saw the Flying Foxes in the Royal Botanic Gardens, Hyde Park, the Anzac War Memorial, Chinatown, Sydney Tower, Parliament House, Queen Victoria Building, Museum of Contemporary Art, Art Gallery of NSW, and much more. We had a Christmas Aussie BBQ with the Kelly family and explored Manly beach. We took a ferry to Watson's Bay for fish and chips and lots of sun. The Toranga Zoo had the best views of Sydney and we got to get close to the Koalas.

Look familiar? This is where one goes to get a Whopper

A famous place to eat the quintessential Aussie meat pie is Harry’s CafĂ© de Wheels. It dates back to the 1930s and is famous for the Tiger, which is on the Sydney Morning Herald’s 50 Things Every Sydney Food Lover Should Try. It’s named after the founder, Harry “Tiger” Edwards and simply put, the Tiger is a basic meat pie, topped with a scoop of mashed potatoes, a scoop of mushy peas, and a scoop of gravy. Pair it with a nice cold beer and you've got a perfect meal.

We spent 4+ days in Cairns and met up with the Dillon family. We went to Kuranda, swam in the lagoon at the esplanade, and spent a day on the Ocean Free to explore part of the Great Barrier Reef. We ended our time with a lovely Christmas lunch with Tim, Haina and Christiano before getting on a plane to Perth.

We spent the last four days of our Ultimate Australian Adventure in wine country of Margaret River with The Hetheringtons. Good food, good wine and great friends at every place made for an unforgettable vacation!
